Dying stubborn hair

So yesterday I decided to pop into Superdrug on my way home to pick up a box dye. I needed to dye my hair pretty desperately but my colour had faded so much that the roots were hardly noticeable apart from in direct sunlight ... therefore I was lazy. I don't like dying my own hair, it's such a long process seeing as my hair is thick at the roots, and considerably long. But alas I'm going on holiday next week and want to look nice, incentive enough!

My little hairdye kit
I usually mix up my own concoction in the bowl you see and use the brush to apply, but the box dye came with a bottle with a comb-nozzle which makes things quite a bit easier for me in order to reach my roots. I alternated with my brush anyway since it distributed better and sort of worked through my entire head in a semi-formation.
The star of the show
The real hero for when I dye my hair is using a stronger developer. I'm not sure of the volume for developers that come in normal box dyes (it's the white liquid in the bottle) but I suppose it must be about 20 vol or less. They don't work so well on my hair, since my hair doesn't take colour very easily. Trust me I've had my share of hair dye failures. It's so disappointing too because of the money and EFFORT that goes into covering my full head. But basically a stronger developer is naturally more damaging to the hair, but it creates a stronger dye, and this works well for me.

9.3 Natural Light Golden Blonde (lol lame attempts at distinguishing between each blonde shade)
Surprisingly enough this is my first time buying blonde, I usually go safe and go for medium-light or light browns. I keep the dye on my head for quite a while (sometimes almost an hour.. oops) so they tint my hair and work fine, mostly. But feeling braver I thought blonde is just going to work best if I want brown.

My usual bin-bag dress getup

BEFORE: Browns only at the bottom, a good 3 or 4 inches of fresh hair grown
AFTER: in artifical lighting. Kept the dye on for about 45 mins

Under lights

So of course the blonde turned my hair quite a warm brown, orange-y brown almost. This would be due to the red tones in my dark brown hair bringing that out. It's fine anyway, I think if i wanted to counteract that I'd have to dye on top again pretty soon or go to the salon. Just wanted a bit of colour out of boredom so suits me okay, hopefully will dye my hair more often so I don't need to start from scratch again, and get a nice buildup of colour. In natural lighting my hair is a warm shade of brown but not very strikingly different I don't think.

I wish I had the money to go to the salon and dye my hair pink and purple. Sylvia Beautycakez from YouTube has my dream hair right now. One day when I am free to, I want that hair!!!
